This was a great event organized by NAAS on 13th March 2016 with the marked presence of 350 odd alumni at Jade Room Restaurant, Hotel Royal, S'pore.
Some alumni with enthusiasm had come all the way from USA & Canada and the rest were from Penang, Sabah, Sarawak, Kelantan, KL & Johor etc.
The dinner started at 7pm sharp with welcoming speeches by the Organizing Chairman, Mr. VP Lee expressed his gratitude towards those who had contributed in one way or another the success of this event especially the Alumni, the CCM of S'pore & M'sia and the NP Polytechnic.
It was indeed encouraging to see the number of participants increased 2 folds as compared to last year. The alumni were reminded to keep in mind this particular date to woo more participants in the coming years.
The Principal, Mr. Clarence Ti , 45 years old, had been with Polytechnic for 2 years. He recalled 40 years ago with the sweet, past memories of those Malaysian students who stayed in the hostel before. He also mentioned about 3 important development plans, viz.
i) The students must practice what they'd learnt & contribute to society.
ii) To train students to acquire hi-tech knowledge & become future entrepreneurs.
iii) Requesting Mr. SS Foo to be the coordinator for the 3 colleges by conducting verbal interviews & records.
With the absence of Mr. Lau Kim San AMP, the President of NAAM, his speech was read out by the Secretary Mr. Philip Yong.
Mr. Lau congratulated NAAS for displaying its unity spirit.
The NAAM was formed in 1995 & since then had been showing persistently its solidarity color. Similarly, NAAM had made its presence by contributing towards the success of this special event.
The Ngee Ann College was formed in 1963 by Ngee Ann Kongsi. It was initially a Chinese Stream University but due to its strong demand technically, it was changed to Ngee Ann Technical College in 1968.Then in 1982 it was again changed to Ngee Ann Polytechnic.
Looking at the name tags with eagerness & surprise, the feelings of most students were beyond any further descriptions as most of them had not met for over 40 to 50 years! Most already turned Apek & Amah!
The flow of words & expressions immediately filled the hall. Many had been carried away by emotions!
However, it's hoped that this boomerang effect will capture more the hearts of future participants.
Following were the kind donations from: Mr. TK Mok, Mr. Lau Wee Soong, Mr. Chua Soo Chiew, Patrick Peng & Mr. Wong Chow Hin. Totaling S$ 25,000
Then another S$ 5,000 from NAAS that gave rise to a total of S$ 30,000
Over the dinner, there were entertainments with so much fun being put up by the alumni and NP.
The dinner ended at 10:30pm with most of the alumni leaving with the feeling of reluctance.
We welcome both alumni & students participation in our organized activities.
